George Okamoto Deputy Director.
George Okamoto is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). Working with the Executive team, George provides technical leadership, vision, and experience. He is responsible for all software development, data management, network infrastructure, information security and information systems within the organization.
George is a native Sacramento resident and returned home after serving in Desert Storm in the United States Navy. George studied management at the University of San Francisco and started work with DTSC in July 2013 with over 20 years experience in information technology. George began his technology career in state service and has worked in various capacities in the public sector.
During his career, he has worked in a technical capacity for the Department of Justice, Department of Water Resources, Franchise Tax Board, Employment Development Department, Department of Conservation and the California Department of Insurance. George has held titles with other organizations such as a Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Network Architect, and Network Operations Bureau Chief prior to his role as CIO.
