Draft Regulation Workshops
On July 7 and 8, 2010, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) held two days of workshops to discuss the newly released draft Regulation for Safer Consumer Products. As part of California’s Green Chemistry Initiative, the regulation sets up a system to remove chemicals of concern from everyday products and provides a process to replace them with safer alternative chemicals.
The workshops gave the public a chance to have a face-to-face question-and-answer session with DTSC Chief Scientist Jeff Wong and DTSC Acting Chief Deputy Director Odette Madriago. The questions came from a variety of business and environmental organizations. They covered everything from the way chemicals of concern are defined to the responsibilities that will be placed on businesses.
