In his capacity as Deputy Director of the Brownfields and Environmental Restoration Program, Black is responsible for regulatory oversight and cleanup at hazardous waste and brownfields sites throughout California. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and more than 30 years of experience in the field of environmental protection and geology. Black has directed complex projects in both the public and private sectors. He has worked with municipalities, schools, the Department of Defense, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and brownfield project proponents to oversee cleanup activities that have restored contaminated sites to their beneficial and economic use
Black started with DTSC as a Unit Chief 13 years ago. His experience in both the public and private sectors has given him a unique perspective on the cleanup of hazardous waste and brownfields sites, which he brings to the Deputy Director position.
