Statement Concerning DTSC’s Involvement in the $25.95 Million
Settlement with Comcast Cable Communications Announced by
Attorney General Kamala D. Harris

SACRAMENTO – The Department of Toxic Substances Control applauds the $25.95 million settlement with Comcast Cable Communications LLC announced Tuesday by California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris.

Investigators from DTSC’s Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) worked with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Environmental Protection Division and the California Highway Patrol to conduct numerous waste inspections at Comcast facilities.

In addition, DTSC’s Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, performed all of the chemical analysis of the waste to determine which were hazardous.

As a result of the work, DTSC will receive $1.6 million to enhance the capability of its Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, $400,000 in equipment for OCI and $200,000 as reimbursement of DTSC’s costs.
