Chemistry
The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL) provides DTSC and other boards and departments within Cal/EPA with expertise and laboratory capacity in the areas of analytical and environmental chemistry.
WHO WE ARE
The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL) is the Reference Laboratory that provides scientific leadership in analytical and environmental chemistry to DTSC and CalEPA. The two laboratories are strategically placed in Berkeley and Pasadena to support the State.
ANALYTICAL TESTING
ECL uses state-of-the-art analytical instruments and equipment to provide accurate and defensible data in the identification and quantification of hazardous waste and hazardous substances for regulatory decision making.
BIOMONITORING CALIFORNIA
ECL provides a direct metric for exposures of Californians to toxic chemicals. By measuring chemicals in wildlife and humans, it can provide a link between environmental contaminants and health outcomes.
CHEMICALS OF EMERGING CONCERN
Man-made chemicals have become a part of everyday life with about 85,000 chemicals in commerce, and about 2,500 new chemicals are introduced every year. ECL has become a leader in identifying chemicals of emerging concern.
CONTACT INFORMATION
