Ecobat (formerly Quemetco) Battery Recycling

City of Industry, Los Angeles County

Ecobat is a hazardous waste facility in the city of Industry on 720 South 7th Avenue. The 13-acre Facility operates a secondary lead smelter that recycles lead, primarily from lead-acid automotive batteries. The Facility is in a predominantly commercial/industrial area bounded to the north by the San Jose Creek, to the west by South 7th Avenue, to the east by commercial businesses and to the south by Salt Lake Avenue.

Since 1959 the Facility has recycled lead acid batteries and other lead scrap materials in order to recover lead for reuse.

The Facility is regulated and routinely inspected by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), the lead agency, also overseeing environmental investigations at the Facility and residential and commercial areas nearby.
