Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Facility Investigation and Cleanup Program
Battery Dealer and Manufacturer Inspections
The Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Act of 2016 (Act), requires, among other things, that dealers of lead-acid batteries display notice of specific aspects of the Act, charge refundable deposits on replacement lead-acid batteries, and receive used lead-acid batteries. Manufacturers of lead-acid batteries are required to meet certain labeling requirements. DTSC has committed to onsite inspections of lead-acid battery dealer and manufacturer facilities registered with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). These inspections are to check whether certain provisions outlined in the Act have been properly implemented.
If you have questions about DTSC’s Dealer and Manufacturer Inspections, contact the LABRIC Program by calling the toll-free number (833) 752-2742 or sending an email to LABRF@dtsc.ca.gov.
CDTFA administers collection of the manufacturer and California battery fees under the amended Act. Information related to CDTFA’s fee activities can be found at the CDTFA website.
