Permitted Sites on CalEnviroScreen
CalEnviroscreen 2.0 was developed by California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), on behalf of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), to help identify California communities that are disproportionately burdened by multiple sources of pollution. CalEnviroscreen uses 19 indicators of environmental, health, and socioeconomic conditions to help identify these communities. A new version of the California Communities Environmental Health Screening Tool: CalEnviroScreen 4.0 was released in October 2021.
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) utilizes CalEnviroscreen by overlaying data related to pollution burden and population characteristics with facilities permitted by the Department. The site helps to improve understanding of communities in proximity to hazardous waste facilities and assist in public outreach efforts for the Permitting Division, Office of Public Participation, and the Office of Environmental Justice and Tribal Affairs.
