Potential Aquatic Impacts and Continued Uses of Nonylphenol Ethoxylates and Triclosan
The Work Plan prioritized product categories containing chemicals that may adversely impact aquatic resources, or that have been observed through water quality monitoring. SCP identified nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), triclosan, and some of their transformation products as Candidate Chemicals that warrant further research. SCP is seeking to better understand the presence of these Candidate Chemicals in the aquatic environment, information regarding their current use in cleaning, personal care, and clothing products, and any additional significant or emerging uses.
View inputs received on our CalSAFER system regarding our preliminary research for potential aquatic impacts and continued uses of NPEs and triclosan.
A public workshop was held on February 8, 2017 that included discussion of challenges around removal of NPEs and triclosan in clothing, cleaning, and personal care products. See our Workshops page for the agenda, webinar recording, and presentation.
