The Department of Toxic Substances Control is pleased to announce that the next phase of the Exide residential cleanup is anticipated to begin on Monday, February 5th. Interested workers are encouraged to reach out to their union representatives for updates and next steps. DTSC is now hosting in-person office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays so residents and businesses surrounding the former Exide battery-recycling facility can stop by and ask questions or receive support.

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is the lead agency overseeing the investigation and cleanup of the residential properties, schools, parks, daycare, and childcare centers within the approximately 1.7-mile radius area of the former Exide Technologies (Exide) facility in Vernon, California. DTSC is working with communities within this cleanup area (called the Preliminary Investigation Area or PIA), that includes the Cities of Bell, Commerce, Huntington Park, Los Angeles (Boyle Heights neighborhood), Maywood, and Vernon, and the County of Los Angeles (East Los Angeles).
