Santa Susana Field Laboratory Public Participation

DTSC is dedicated to building a comprehensive engagement process, giving voice to all participants and allowing direct access to information. Engaging the public with transparency creates trust and leads to better decisions. Our tools of engagement are outlined below. If you have suggestions or questions, please contact Jamie Slaughter Public Participation Specialist at (818) 938-8353 or via e-mail at Jamie.Slaughter@dtsc.ca.gov.

Community Survey

Community surveys allow DTSC to proactively seek public input. Public Participation staff use survey results to inform decisions regarding workshops, meetings, and other related community communication and participation activities.

Written Materials

Written materials include community updates, work notices, and other correspondence that may be mailed or emailed. Please visit the Community Updates and Public Involvement Documents web page to access these documents and public meeting or hearing documents. Additional documents can be accessed from the SSFL Document Library. The Library contains helpful materials like past risk assessments, studies, public comment documents, and more. For information issued by other agencies, please contact the appropriate agency as listed on the Other Agency Contacts page.

DTSC Public Meetings

Community Meetings

Informal community meetings such as workshops and open houses, provide an excellent opportunity to share information and hear what stakeholders and community members are saying. These meetings are scheduled in the evenings or on weekends at convenient locations throughout the community.

Public Comment Period, Meetings, and Hearings

DTSC hosts public meetings on a variety of topics to engage our stakeholders. Formal hearings are held to collect public comment on proposed actions as required. Announcements are made via e-mail, posted on the DTSC online calendar, advertised in local newspapers, and mailed out in community updates or post cards.

DTSC E-mail Updates

DTSC invites you to sign up for our regular email updates related to the investigation and cleanup activities for SSFL. DTSC will continue to seek your input on additional means of public involvement.
