Safer Consumer Products Regulations
Back in 2004, recognizing the challenges of banning harmful chemicals only to have them replaced with other chemicals that are just as bad or worse, the California legislature commissioned researchers at the University of California to investigate the problem and propose solutions. This research formed the basis for the 2008 California Green Chemistry Initiative report. To implement some of the key recommendations of the report, the Legislature passed, and Governor Schwarzenegger signed the California Green Chemistry Law in 2008, which led to the adoption of the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) Regulations in 2013.
The full text of the SCP Regulations can be found in the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 55. Article 11 of the SCP Regulations is updated whenever DTSC adds a new Priority Product.
