August 31, 2020, Virtual Workshop
Food Packaging Containing Perfluoroalkyl or Polyfluoroalkyl Substances
DTSC hosted a virtual workshop on August 31st, 2020 to share our findings and receive public comment on a proposal to list one or more plant fiber-based food packaging products containing perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances as Priority Products under the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) regulations.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the workshop was held online using the video conferencing system BlueJeans, which gave the option to either join via the web (through a browser or desktop app) or to call in.

May 15, 2020, Public Hearing
Carpets and Rugs Containing Perfluoroalkyl or Polyfluoroalkyl Substances as a Priority Product
On May 15, 2020, DTSC held a public hearing to receive comments on the proposal to adopt regulations listing Carpets and Rugs Containing Perfluoroalkyl or Polyfluoroalkyl Substances as a Priority Product.
Due to the threat of COVID-19, the public hearing for this regulation, originally scheduled for April 13, 2020, was postponed and conducted as a virtual hearing on May 15, 2020, beginning at 9 a.m. The public accessed the public hearing via teleconference. The comment period for these proposed regulations was also extended to May 15, 2020.

February 24, 2020, Workshop
Nail Products Containing Methyl Methacrylate
On February 24, 2020, DTSC hosted a public meeting to discuss its proposal to list nail products containing methyl methacrylate (MMA) as a Priority Product with a Chemical of Concern under the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) regulations. DTSC’s findings on nail products containing MMA are summarized in a draft Product-Chemical Profile.The meeting was held in the Sierra Hearing Room at the CalEPA Headquarters, 1001 I Street, Sacramento, California and via webcast starting at 9:00 a.m. and ended when there were no further questions.
DTSC shared information on its previous and ongoing investigations on the presence of other Candidate Chemicals in nail products during this public meeting.

Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFASs) and their Alternatives in Food Packaging
On January 14, 2020, DTSC hosted a day-long public workshop on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), and their alternatives, in food packaging. The meeting, included presentations and panel discussions, held in the Sierra Hearing Room at the CalEPA Headquarters, 1001 I Street, Sacramento, California and via webcast.
