Sunset Smelting and Refining Co.

The former Sunset Smelting and Refining Company site (Site), also known as A. Bercovich, or the Mark Aboudi Property, is located at 1639 18th Street in Oakland, CA. The Site is approximately 1- acre and is in a mixed residential and industrial area. Currently, it’s used for parking and maintenance of trucks and cargo containers. The Sunset Smelting and Refining Company operated at the Site from roughly 1914 to 1962. Metal products manufactured by Sunset Smelting contained lead. Sources confirm that lead refining operations were conducted at the Site.
