Managing Hazardous Waste

We protect the environment and communities by ensuring compliance with hazardous waste laws

Kettleman Hills Facility

Kettleman Hills Facility (KHF) is a commercial hazardous waste facility authorized for hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal. It is one of two operating hazardous waste landfills in California and the only facility that accepts Toxic Substances Control Act-regulated polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) waste for disposal.

DTSC is responsible for issuing KHF’s hazardous waste facility permit and enforcing it through inspections. DTSC ensures the facility operates in a health-protective manner by exercising the full strength of its authority under the law.

Draft Permit & CalEnviroScreen Report

DTSC proposed a draft permit that would authorize Chemical Waste Management to continue to conduct hazardous waste landfill operations at KHF. DTSC has also prepared a Kettleman City Vulnerability Evaluation using CalEnviroScreen Data (CES Report) that evaluates the environmental burdens and socioeconomic impacts in Kettleman City.
