Lynwood Environmental Health Assessment

CEHAT launched its environmental health assessment in the City of Lynwood in May and closed the survey on June 8, 2023. There were 213 surveys collected from residents, youth, workers, and businesses. CEHAT also collected feedback through focus groups with parents, youth and businesses. The responses from the surveys and focus groups will guide CEHAT in the development of the Environmental Health Action Plan that will be used to address environmental health issues of concern to the Lynwood community. For now, CEHAT will be going through the responses and begin their research on the top issues of concern.

The Department of Toxic Substances Control, Office of Brownfields, is working with the City of Lynwood to implement the Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health (PACE-EH); a protocol that builds knowledge and capacity of residents to be involved in determining environmental health priorities.  The Office of Brownfields, Equitable Community Revitalization Program is funding this effort, as a pilot project, to have community representation in environmental health projects. The pilot project is looking at how the PACE-EH can be used as a place-based model of engagement in areas that have numerous environmental health issues. At the completion of the pilot project, a Community Environmental Health Assessment Team (CEHAT) will be formed that will self-direct and engage in addressing environmental health issues prioritized through the PACE-EH process.
