California Seeks Input on Proposal to Regulate Toxic Chemicals in Hair Straightening Products
SACRAMENTO – California could be among the first states to regulate harmful chemicals in hair straightening products used by millions of people, many of them women of color.
There is evidence that chemicals in these products may affect the respiratory and reproductive systems.
The Department of Toxic Substances Control – the state department tasked with protecting California consumers from harmful chemicals – has the authority to compel manufacturers to consider using safer ingredients. To gather more information before making a decision, DTSC’s Safer Consumer Products Program is holding a virtual workshop on Wednesday and Thursday to learn more from industry experts, academia, and others.
To attend, please register.
When: June 23 and 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days
- Day 1 – June 23, 2021 – Speaker Presentations
- Day 2 – June 24, 2021 – Panel Discussion
Information: Safer Consumer Products Workshops and Events page.
