Hazardous Waste Exemptions

In some instances, a waste is not totally excluded from the California Code of Regulations regulations, but is exempted from some of the hazardous waste requirements as long as certain management conditions are met. For example:

• Materials in product or raw material storage tanks¹ are exempt until removed within 90 days of ceasing operation
• Samples² are subject to regulation as a waste after use as a sample ceases
• Treatability study samples³ for generator and labs
• Controlled substances⁴
