Resolution to 2013/2014 Summary of Violations
On February 10, 2016 the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and twenty-five manufacturers came to an agreement to improve out-of-service mercury-added thermostat collections in California by entering into a Consent Order. The Consent Order requires the manufacturers to develop an outreach plan and pilot projects to increase awareness and incentivize safe disposal of mercury-added thermostats. The final executed Consent Order can be viewed below.
Consent Order Updates:
On December 22, 2017 DTSC has determined the Thermostat Recycling Corporation’s (TRC) “2017-2018 Approved California Outreach Plan Advertising Component” (Component) inadequate. The Thermostat Recycling Corporation (TRC) is a non-profit corporation created by thermostat manufacturers for the purpose of promoting and facilitating the collection and proper disposal of mercury thermostats.
Manufacturers not in Compliance with Reporting Requirements
DTSC is required by the law to post a notice on its Internet Web site listing manufacturers that are not in compliance with the reporting requirements of The Mercury Thermostat Collection Act of 2008 on July 1, 2009, and on January 1 and July 1 annually thereafter.
