Safer Consumer Products

We are working toward safer California households, workplaces, and products.

SCP’s Environmental Justice Initiative

California was one of the first states in the nation to codify environmental justice in statute. According to CalEPA, “The principles of environmental justice call for fairness, regardless of race, color, national origin or income, and the meaningful involvement of community in the development of laws and regulations that affect every community’s natural surroundings, and the places people live, work, play and learn.”

For SCP, environmental justice means protecting the environment equitably for all social groups. A social group could refer to a person’s race, culture, community or economic status. In our work, we aim to:

Reduce harmful impacts of products for the most vulnerable.

Honor the voices and lived experience of people in frontline communities.

Understand the history that has led to injustices.

Provide opportunities for people who have been left out to contribute to our work.

Make sure that the benefits of our program are distributed fairly and extend to all forms of life.
